Overview
The ECM-GZ1UBMP is a microphone that can be used in conjunction with the
transmitter of the Sony Digital Wireless Package and allows you to pick up
sounds from instruments with ease.
Features
A uni-directional condenser microphone ideal for use with trumpets,

saxophones, and other wind instruments for high-quality sound.
The wide dynamic range and wide frequency range allow for balanced,

natural, and clear sound pickup.
The flexible gooseneck and 2-way clip allow for easy optimal position

adjustment.
Low noise microphone capsule designed for use in high SPL environments.

The uni-directional directivity reduces howling and effectively separates

unnecessary sources of sound.

 Connector (mini plug with lock)
 Mic holder clip
Attaching the Microphone
Adjust the orientation and length of the microphone, insert it into the holder
(
) of the mic holder clip, attach the holding cap (
), and attach the cap to the
mic holder clip (
). (Fig. -a)
Attach the mic holder clip to the section of the instrument where sound is
emitted (e.g., the bell section of a wind instrument).
Attach the gooseneck (
) to the mic holder clip in one of the two possible
directions according to the instrument type. (Fig. -b/c)
In addition, the position and length of the flexible gooseneck (
) can be
adjusted according to the size and shape of the instrument’s bell section, for
example. (Fig. -d/e)
The orientation and position of the microphone can alter the quality of the
instrument’s sound. Attach the microphone in a manner that produces the
desired sound.
Excess lengths of cable can be clipped to the side of the mic holder clip.
(Fig. -f)
Tip
DPA d:vote and 4099-series instrument attachments for microphones can also
be used.
This allows you to attach the microphone to a wider variety of instruments.
For details on the attachments, visit the DPA Microphones website.

For details about use with accessories from other companies or other queries, contact your
dealer or local Sony representative.
Notes
The gooseneck cannot be bent into sharp angles.

Adjusting the orientation or length of the microphone after attaching it to an

instrument may damage the instrument. When performing such adjustments
while the microphone is attached to the instrument, be sure to hold down the
mic holder clip.
Connecting to the Transmitter (Fig.
)
Insert the plug (
), and secure the connector cover (
).
Notes
When using the microphone when it is connected to a transmitter, bringing

the microphone near the antenna may generate noise.
As the acoustic pressure from instruments can be extremely high, adjust the

attenuation level using the ATT switch on the transmitter to sufficiently lower
the acoustic pressure.
Precautions for Use
Microphones are delicate. Do not drop or subject it to excessive shock.

Avoid extended usage or storage in high humidity or temperatures above

60 °C (140 °F).
Howling may occur during use when sound from the speakers is picked up by

the microphone. To prevent this, avoid facing the microphone and speakers
toward each other, and distance them as much as possible.
If low-frequency noise is a concern, for example, due to wind or vibration,

adjust the low cut filter or the equalizer in the wireless receiver or other device
connected to the microphone to suppress susceptibility to low-frequency
noise.
When bending the gooseneck to adjust the position of the capsule case,

gently bend the gooseneck into a curve and do not use excessive force.
Disconnect the microphone cable from the transmitter after use.

When using the microphone in highly humid environments, exposing the mic

head to sweat or excessive moisture will result in loss of sound output and
other malfunctions.
Always attach the wind screen when using the microphone. Depending on

the instrument, popping sounds may be picked up if the wind screen is not
attached.
When this unit is connected to devices other than DWZ-series transmitters,

problems such as lack of sound and phase inversion may occur.

)
