EZ-SPWSL
INTRODUCTION
The EZ-SPWSL ezIP SlimLine™ Wall Speaker
enables voice access to a single zone of paging
over an IP-based network. The enclosure is made
of PC/ABS blend plastic and offered in Black, Gray
and White. Black and Gray have a Black grille;
White enclosure has a White grille. Power is
provided to the EZ-SPWSL via a Power over
Ethernet (PoE) switch meeting the 802.3af
specification.

FCC Information
This equipment has been tested and found to
comply with the limits for a Class A digital
device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules.
These limits are designed to provide reasonable
protection against harmful interference when
the equipment is operated in a commercial
environment. This equipment generates, uses
and can radiate radio frequency energy and if
not installed and used in accordance with the
instruction manual, may cause harmful

interference to radio communications.
Operation of this equipment in a residential area
may cause harmful interference in which case
the user will be required to correct the
interference at his own expense.
MOUNTING
The EZ-SPWSL is designed for surface mounting.
The mounting plate/base is pre-drilled for mounting
to a standard single-gang, double-gang or octagon
electrical box.
Remove the cloth grille by gently pushing the sides
of the grille toward the center of the speaker to
release the grille from the speaker housing.
Remove four screws attaching the speaker housing
to the mounting plate/base. Secure the mounting
plate/base to the electrical box and route the
network cable through the hole in the center of the
mounting plate/base. Make all necessary wiring
connections before reattaching the speaker housing
to the mounting plate/base. Reattach the cloth
grille to the speaker housing using the tabs on the
ends of the grille. See Figure 2.
Network Connection
The EZ-SPWSL has one RJ-45 network connector
on the rear panel. Use a standard patch cable to
connect the EZ-SPWSL to an Ethernet switch
providing Power over Ethernet (PoE) meeting the
802.3af specification. If the switch does not provide
power, a mid-span power injector may be used.

Call Switch Connection
NOTE: Call Switch input and Talkback
functionality referenced below requires
purchase of the Talkback Upgrade license to
enable full Valcom VIP Protocol. Call Switch
input and Talkback are not functional without
the upgrade.
For IP Speakers using Talkback functionality, a call
switch input via screw terminals is provided, labeled
Switch 1 and Ground.
Mute Out Connection: The Mute Out may
optionally be connected to the mute input of
Valcom Classroom audio management systems to
suspend locally originated classroom audio during
intercom announcements.
LED (+) and (-) Connection: LED (+) and
(-) is a current limited output designed to illuminate
an optional LED. The LED is intended to provide
visual indication of call progress. The LED
illumination will flash when the call switch is
pressed and will continue to flash until the call is
answered. The LED illumination will be solid while
a connection to the IP Talkback Speaker is
established.
-10 dB Line Level Out Connection:
The -10dBm Line Level Out may be connected to
up to 40 Valcom Self Amplified Speakers to provide
additional sound reinforcement in an area.
