Product User Safety Information
1. Read and follow the instructions
• Alwaysfollowtheinstructionsprovidedintheproduct'susermanual,onthepackaging
orontheproductitself.Onlyusetheproductafteryouhavereadandunderstoodthe
safetyinformation.Donotusetheproductforpurposesotherthantheonesdescribed.
• Keeptheusermanualinasafeplace.Ifyouhandovertheproducttosomeoneelse,
makesureyouincludetheusermanual.
2. Child safety hazards
• Keepanyproductthatisnotintendedtobeatoyoutofthereachofchildren.Young
childrenareunabletoassessrisksproperly.
• Caution!Ifaproductisatoy,readandfollowtheinstructionsprovidedintheenclosed
usermanual(seeSection1)beforegivingthetoytoachild.
Toyscomewitharecommendedagedeterminedbytheproductmanufacturer.Ifyouig-
norethisagerecommendationbasedonthecurrentdevelopment/abilitiesofyourchild
youdosoatyourownperil.Sometoysmayonlybeusedunderparentalsupervision.
• Toysnotintendedforusebychildrenunder3yearsofage:Caution:Notsuitablefor
childrenunder3yearsofage.Chokinghazard!
• Keeppackagingmaterialoutofthereachofchildrenandpets.Healthhazard!
3. User hazards
• Don'tuseproductsthatsportvisibledamage.Basedontheproductandthetypeof
damage, such products may cause injuries (e.g. by sharp edges) or death (e.g. by
electrocution).
• Forsafetyandlegalreasons,anyunauthorisedmodicationoftheproductisnotpermit-
ted.Donotremovethehousingordisassembletheproduct.Nouser-servicableparts
inside.Anyrepairmustbecarriedoutbyaqualiedserviceengineer.
• Theproductdesigndetermineswhichofthecomponentsaresprayproof/waterproof.
Formoreinformation,pleaserefertotheusermanual(seeSection1).Immersing/sub-
mergingnon-waterproofproducts/componentsinwatermaydamagetheproduct,or,in
theworstcase,causedeathbyelectrocution.
• Operatingacertaintypeofproduct(e.g.machinesortools)requirestheuseofpersonal
protectiveequipmenttominimizehealthhazardsandotherrisks.
Thisincludes,forinstance,theuseofsuitableearprotectorsaswellaswearingmasks/
respirators,safetygoggles,gloves,safetyfootwearandclothing.
• Usingtheproductundertheinuenceofalcoholordrugs(prescribedorotherwise)may
posevarioushealthhazards.
4. Product protection
• Protect the product against high temperature, mechanical impact, strain, ammable
gases,anytypeofvapourandsolvents.
• Handletheproductwithcare.Mechanicalimpactsincludingfallsfromlowheightwill
damagetheproduct.
• Theproductdesigndetermineswhichofthecomponentsaresprayproof/waterproof.
Formoreinformation,pleaserefertotheusermanual(seeSection1).Immersing/sub-
mergingnon-waterproofproducts/componentsinwatermayresultintheproductbeing
damaged.
• Donotimmediatelyconnecttheproducttomainspowerafteryou'vebroughtitfroma
coldintoawarmenvironment(e.g.duringtransport).Theresultingcondensationcan
destroythedevice,orresultinanelectricshock.
Makesurethedeviceisatroomtemperaturebeforeyouswitchiton.Waituntilallcon-
densationhasevaporated.Thismaytakeacoupleofhours.Don'tuseitbeforehand.
• Alwayscheckthevoltagerating.Observetheproduct-specicratingwhenitcomesto
input/outputvoltage/amperage,powerratingsetc.
5. Battery hazards
(removable and non-removable batteries)
• Swallowingabatterycanbelife-threatening!Seekimmediatemedicalhelp!
• Keepbatteriesoutofthereachofchildren.
• Damagedorpost-servicelifebatteriescanleakuid.Thismayresultinchemicalburns
toskinoreyes.Carefullyrinsetheaffectedbodypartswithplentyofwarmwaterand
seekmedicalattentionifrequired.
• Damagedbatteries/rechargeablescancatchreorexplode.
• Donotrechargenon-rechargeablebatteries.Thismayresultinabatteryreorexplo-
sion.
• Onlychargerechargeablebatteries.Makesureyouuseachargerthatissuitablefor
thebatteryyouwanttocharge.Usingthewrongchargermayresultinabatteryreor
explosion.
Keepaneyeonthebatteriesyucharge.Sincebatteriesheatupduringcharging,pro-
tectsensitivesurfacesusinganon-ammablecover.Keepthechargerawayfromam-
mablematerials(e.g.curtains).
Disconnectchargeranddeviceafterthebatteryhasbeenrecharged.
• Ifyourdeviceispoweredbyremovablebatteries,makesureyouusethebatterytype
speciedintheusermanualoronthedevice.
• Iftheproductneedsmorethanonebattery,don'tuserechargeableandnon-recharge-
ablebatteriesatthesametime.Don'tusebatterieswithdifferentchargelevelsoramp
ratings.Replaceallbatteries,notjustone.
• Batteriescontainmanychemicalsthatharmtheenvironment.Disposeofthebatteries
accordingtoenvironmentalguidelines(see"Disposal").
6. Products with built-in light sources/lasers
Examples: Torch, ceiling light, laser pointer, presenter, projector
• Caution!Donotlookintothelightorlaserbeamgeneratedbyanopticalinstrument.
Thismaycausepermanentdamagetoyoureyes.
• Donotpointlasersatpeopleoranimals.
• Strobe/ickeringlightsmaycausebalanceissuesandeventriggerepilepticseizures
insomepeople.
7. Products with built-in fans
Examples: Heater, fan, charger
• Keepsmallitems,lightweightobjects,hairetcoutofthewayasthesemaygetsucked
intotheproductanddamageit.Thereisalsotheriskofgettinginjuredorcatchingre.
• Don'tcoveranyairintakeventsorblowernozzlesoftheproductasthisresultsinmal-
function.Moreover,itleadstooverheatingandposesarerisk.
• Don'tblockrotatingfanblades.Don'tstickyourngerinafan.Youmightgetinjured.
8. Products with a removable fuse
Examples: Multimeter, PSU, amplier
• Unplugthedeviceformthepowersourcebeforereplacingthefuse.
• Don'tbridgeablownfuse.There'saseriousriskofareorofdeathbyelectrocution.
• Alwaysreplacefuseslike-for-like(sametype,samerating).
• Ifthefuseblowsagain,unplugtheproductfromthepowersourceandgetittestedbya
qualiedengineer.Stopusingtheproduct.
9. Products that need to be tted
• Usethe appropriatexingmaterials(e.g.usescrewsandwallplugssuitablefor the
substrate).
• Make sure you don't damage any cables or wires when drilling holes or tightening
screws.
• Don'tttheseproductstovehiclesunlessapprovedbytheproductmanufacturer.
10. Free-standing products
• Theproductmustbeplacedonahorizontal,stable,smoothandappropriatelysized
surface.Donotplacetheproductoncarpetsandotherammablesubstrates.
• Protectvaluablesurfacesusingamattopreventscratchesordenting.
• Ensureproperproductcooling.Donotcovertheproduct.
